Ο Νικόλαος Φραγκίσκου Καμπάνης είναι Ομηριστής, συνεργάτης από το 1998 και συνεχιστής του έργου του Νίκου Λιβαδά Τουμασάτου. Γεωλόγος του Αριστοτέλειου Πανεπιστημίου Θεσσαλονίκης, ειδικευμένος στην Ομηρική Γεωγραφία.
Κατά τη διάρκεια των σπουδών του δημοσίευσε τα εξής, στα πλαίσια της Έδρας Γεν. Γεωλογίας - Παλαιοντολογίας:
-ΜΙΚΡΗ ΓΕΩΛΟΓΙΚΗ ΠΕΡΙΗΓΗΣΗ ΣΤΗ ΒΟΥΛΓΑΡΙΑ μαζί με το Πανεπιστήμιο Οχρίτσκι της Σόφιας, Θεσσαλονίκη 1981.
-ΤΕΧΝΙΚΑ ΧΑΡΑΚΤΗΡΙΣΤΙΚΑ ΤΩΝ ΠΕΤΡΩΜΑΤΩΝ - ΦΡΑΓΜΑΤΑ (Τομέας ΥΔΡΟΓΕΩΛΟΓΙΑΣ), Θεσσαλονίκη 1982.
ΑΝΑΚΑΛΥΨΕ το 1983 το Παλαιοντολογικό Κοίτασμα: ΠΕΝΤΑΛΟΦΟΣ Ι (Μελέτη, Αξιοποίηση, Χρονολόγηση: Α.Π.Θ.).

Το 2002-2003, μετά τον θάνατο του Νίκου Λιβαδά, άρχισε να εκπονεί μελέτες επί της Ομηρικής Γεωγραφίας. Δημοσίευσε την "ΤΕΛΕΥΤΑΙΑ ΕΥΚΑΙΡΙΑ" όπου με στοιχεία ΣΥΓΚΡΙΤΙΚΗΣ ΓΕΩΛΟΓΙΑΣ (Ζάκυνθος), αναπαριστά μια χαμένη χερσόνησο στο νότιο άκρο της Παλλικής, τις ΑΛΑΛΚΟΜΕΝΕΣ!... Ενδιάμεσα, αφ` ότου εγκαταστάθηκε στην Αθήνα, είχε ειδικευτεί από τα τέλη της δεκαετίας του ΄80 στη ΣΚΑΚΙΣΤΙΚΗ ΠΡΟΠΟΝΗΤΙΚΗ! Διδάσκει Σκάκι τόσο σε Σχολεία όσο και σε Σκακιστικά τμήματα Πολιτιστικών και Αθλητικών Ομίλων.

Ο Νίκος Καμπάνης έχει μεταφράσει την Οδύσσεια του Ομήρου στη Νεοελληνική. Είναι συγγραφέας 59 βιβλίων, (22 σκακιστικά, ένα λογοτεχνικό, δυο θεατρικά, 9 Ομηρικής Γεωγραφίας, 25 αναλύσεις ραψωδιών της Οδύσσειας, από τα οποία βιβλία, δυο στα αγγλικά, δύο στα γαλλικά, ένα στα ισπανικά και ένα στα ιταλικά), διαχειριστής επτά σελίδων του facebook και κάτοχος της ιστοσελίδας Ομηρική Ιθάκη - Geography of Odyssey.​
